AI answer readiness

A 0–100 score for how easy a post is for AI answer engines such as ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews to understand and quote.

Updated 3 min read
On this page

AI answer engines, such as ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, answer a question by reading pages and quoting the parts that answer it. AI answer readiness scores a post from 0 to 100 on how easy it is for them to understand and quote, and gives you a tip for every check that doesn't pass.

AI answer readiness is free and needs no AI key: the checks run inside WordPress.

Note The score is a guide to clear, quotable content. It is not a ranking signal and can't guarantee that any AI engine will show or cite your page.

Where to find it

  • Block editor: open the RankFlect SEO panel and choose Analysis. The AI answer readiness card sits with the SEO score.
  • Classic Editor and Elementor: in the RankFlect SEO panel, next to the analysis checks.
  • AI agents: the analyze_post agent tool includes the readiness score and its checks, so an agent can see what to improve.
  • Site audit: posts with low readiness are listed as a notice, so you can find them across the site.

The score updates as you edit the post.

What it checks

Check What it looks for
Direct answer near the top The post answers its main question in the first paragraphs, before the background.
Descriptive subheadings Subheadings say what the section covers, or ask the question it answers.
Lists and short paragraphs Steps, options and facts in lists or tables, and paragraphs short enough to quote.
Sources linked Claims and figures link to where they come from.
FAQ Common questions answered in a question and answer format, for example with the FAQ block.
Author shown The post shows who wrote it.
Freshness The post has been published or updated recently.
Structured data The page outputs schema that describes it. See the schema overview.
Not blocked from AI search crawlers Your robots.txt allows the AI search crawlers. See AI crawlers.

Each check that doesn't pass shows a short tip that says what to change.

How it differs from the SEO score

The SEO score checks on-page basics for your focus keyword, such as where the keyword appears and how long the title and description are. AI answer readiness doesn't use the focus keyword. It looks at how clearly the post answers a question, and whether an AI engine can read it and trust it.

A post can score well on one and not the other. Use both.

Improve a post's readiness

  1. Put a one or two sentence answer to the post's main question right under the introduction.
  2. Rewrite vague subheadings ("Overview", "More info") so they describe the section or ask its question.
  3. Break long paragraphs up, and turn steps and comparisons into lists or tables.
  4. Link the sources for facts and figures.
  5. Add an FAQ block with the questions readers ask.
  6. Show the author, and update the post when things change.
  7. Check that your robots.txt doesn't block the AI search crawlers you want.

For the site-wide settings that help AI engines, see the AI search checklist.

FAQ

Will a high score get my post cited by ChatGPT or Google AI Overviews?

No score can guarantee that. Which sources an AI engine picks is up to that engine. The checks cover what makes a page easier to understand and quote.

Does it use my AI key?

No. The checks run in WordPress, without an AI provider.

Do I need to reach 100?

No. Like the SEO score, the checks are guidelines. Short answer pages may not need an FAQ, for example. Fix the checks that make sense for the post.
