Headline analyzer
Score your post title from 0 to 100 as you type: length, word balance, headline type, sentiment and where Google cuts it, with optional AI title ideas.
On this page
The headline analyzer scores your post title, the headline readers see at the top of the post. It gives a score from 0 to 100 and tells you what to change: length, word choice, headline type, sentiment and whether the title fits in a Google result.
It runs in your browser and updates on every keystroke. It is part of the free plugin.
Note The headline analyzer checks the post title, not the SEO title. Google usually shows your SEO title, which can be different. The SEO title has its own length bar under the field.
Where to find it
- Block editor: open the RankFlect SEO panel and choose Analysis. The Headline Analyzer card sits under the SEO score. See Edit SEO in the block editor.
- Classic Editor and Elementor: in the RankFlect SEO box or the Elementor drawer, open the collapsible Headline (post title) panel under the checks. Its header shows the score. See The Classic Editor box and Elementor.
Until the post has a title, it says "Write a post title to see its headline score."
What it shows
- A score ring from 0 to 100, with the title.
- Characters, Words, Type and Sentiment.
- A Word balance bar with the share of common, uncommon, emotional and power words.
- In Google (desktop): a preview of how the title looks in a Google result, with the end cut off when it's too wide.
- A list of the parts, worst first. Each shows its points, such as
14/20, and a tip.
How the score works
For English content, the score adds up these parts (100 points in total):
| Part | Points | Full points when |
|---|---|---|
| Characters | 20 | 40 to 60 characters. 25 to 75 gets part of the points. |
| Words | 15 | 6 to 12 words. 4 to 16 gets part of the points. |
| Common words | 10 | 20–30% everyday words, such as "the", "you", "how" and "your". They make a headline read naturally. |
| Uncommon words | 10 | 10–20% less common words, such as "secret", "mistakes" and "guide". They make it specific. |
| Emotional words | 8 | 10–15% emotional words, such as "incredible", "fear" and "love". |
| Power words | 7 | At least one power word, such as "proven", "free", "ultimate" or "step-by-step". One or two is enough. |
| Type | 10 | A list, how-to or question headline. A headline with a number gets 8, a plain statement gets 5. |
| Sentiment | 10 | A clearly positive or negative headline. A neutral one gets 5. |
| Fits in Google | 10 | The title fits in about 580 pixels, the width Google shows on desktop. A title that gets cut gets 3. |
The score is green from 80, amber from 50 and red below 50.
Headline types
| Type | Example |
|---|---|
| List | Starts with a number: "7 ways to keep pickles crunchy" |
| How-to | "How to make mango pickle at home" |
| Question | Ends with a question mark, or starts like a question: "Why does pickle go soft?" |
| Contains a number | "Mango pickle recipe for 2026" |
| General | Anything else |
Other languages
Word balance and sentiment use English word lists, so they are only scored for English content. For other languages, the score uses characters, words, type and the Google cut-off, scaled to 0 to 100. The panel says so and names the post's language.
Get better title ideas with AI
If you added your own AI provider key, click Suggest better titles. Your AI provider writes a few new titles based on the saved post, and each idea shows its headline score.
Click an idea to use it as the post title. Where RankFlect SEO can't change the title field, such as in Elementor, clicking copies the idea so you can paste it.
- Save the post first. The button stays off until the post is saved.
- Without an AI key, the panel shows Set up AI instead.
- The ideas count toward your daily AI limit.
Tips for a better headline
- Put the most important words first. If Google cuts the title, readers still see them.
- Be specific. "How to make mango pickle in 3 days" beats "Mango pickle".
- Use a number when you can. Lists and numbers tell readers exactly what they get.
- Don't chase 100. A clear, honest title that matches the post is worth more than a perfect score.
FAQ
Does the headline score change my SEO score?
No. The headline score is separate. The SEO score comes from the content analysis checks.
Why does my headline fit, but my SEO title is cut off?
They are different fields. The headline analyzer checks the post title. Google usually shows the SEO title, which may include your site name. Check the length bar under the SEO title field.
Is my title sent anywhere?
No. The score is worked out in your browser. Only Suggest better titles sends the saved post to your own AI provider.
