The right Yoast SEO alternative depends on what you are missing: Rank Math and RankFlect SEO include a free redirect manager and multiple focus keywords, The SEO Framework suits people who want almost no settings, and SEOPress PRO and RankFlect SEO run AI on your own key. Below we compare all five on the features that matter, recommend one for each type of site, and show how to switch safely.
Every competitor detail here comes from the vendor's own website or WordPress.org page, checked in November 2026. Plans change often, so confirm the details before you decide.
Key takeaways
- Yoast SEO is still a solid, well-supported plugin. Many sites have no reason to leave.
- Most people look for alternatives because redirects, extra keyphrases and AI tools are Premium features in Yoast.
- Rank Math and RankFlect SEO include a redirect manager in the free plugin. In All in One SEO it is a paid feature. SEOPress free handles per-post redirects, and its full manager is in PRO.
- AI is paid for in different ways: bundled in a subscription (Yoast), credits (Rank Math, All in One SEO, optional in SEOPress), or your own API key (SEOPress PRO, RankFlect SEO).
- Switching is low-risk if you import, check a sample of pages and keep only one SEO plugin active.
Why people look for a Yoast SEO alternative
Yoast SEO is one of the most installed WordPress plugins. It gives you titles, meta descriptions, XML sitemaps, schema and its familiar traffic-light content analysis. For a blog that needs the basics done well, it remains a reasonable choice.
The reasons people shop around are usually about where the free plugin stops. According to Yoast's WordPress.org page, these are part of Yoast SEO Premium:
- Redirects. The "redirect manager with bulk tools, CSV import and export, and automatic prompts when you move or delete content" is listed as a Premium feature.
- More keyphrases. Yoast offers "up to 5 keyphrases in Premium".
- AI tools. "Yoast's AI tools come with Yoast SEO Premium." Yoast says there is no separate AI subscription and "no credit top-up to buy".
- More schema types. Premium adds schema types beyond the free plugin's graph.
None of this makes Yoast a bad plugin. It means that if you need redirects or several keyphrases on a free plan, another plugin may cover that without an upgrade.
The five Yoast alternatives at a glance
Rank Math
Rank Math's WordPress.org page lists a redirection manager, a built-in 404 monitor and optimization for multiple focus keywords per post. It describes "a module based system" where you "enable only what you need". Its schema support covers common types such as Article, FAQ, How To, Product, Recipe and Video.
Its AI is called Content AI. It needs a connected Rank Math account and runs on usage credits. You can start free, and Rank Math sells more credits as a subscription. Rank Math has a one-click importer for Yoast SEO, Yoast SEO Premium, All in One SEO, SEOPress and the Redirection plugin.
All in One SEO (AIOSEO)
According to its WordPress.org page, the free version covers titles and meta descriptions, an XML sitemap, schema markup, Search Console integration and TruSEO content analysis. AIOSEO describes TruSEO as optimizing for unlimited focus keywords. AIOSEO Pro adds the redirection manager, local SEO, rank tracking, internal linking and WooCommerce SEO.
AIOSEO's AI features run on AI credits, and each paid plan includes a set number of them at the time of writing. On performance, AIOSEO says its menu pages and libraries are lazy-loaded so they only load when needed. It imports SEO data from Yoast SEO, Yoast SEO Premium, Rank Math and SEOPress, and redirects from several redirect plugins.
SEOPress
SEOPress's WordPress.org page lists content analysis with unlimited target keywords and per-post redirects in the free version. SEOPress PRO adds the full redirect manager with regex, a 404 monitor and a schema editor. The plugin calls itself fast and privacy-first and says it has no upsells in the admin. It also offers white labeling for free.
The AI features are part of PRO. You can use your own key from OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, Mistral AI or DeepSeek, and SEOPress says it charges nothing extra for this. It also sells an optional AI Credits service if you don't want to manage a key. SEOPress has the longest migration list of the group, including Yoast SEO, Rank Math, AIOSEO, The SEO Framework, Slim SEO and Squirrly.
The SEO Framework
The SEO Framework is free, with no premium version of the core plugin. It describes itself as "slim yet all-inclusive" and promises no ads, tracking or nags. It outputs JSON-LD structured data and breadcrumbs automatically, with very few settings to manage.
Two things work differently. Focus keywords are not in the core plugin; they come from the optional Focus extension. There is also no general redirect manager, so you would pair it with a redirect plugin. The free Transport extension migrates metadata from Yoast SEO, Rank Math and SEOPress. We found no AI writing features on its plugin page.
RankFlect SEO
RankFlect SEO is our plugin, so weigh this section with that in mind. The free plugin includes unlimited focus keywords with a score per keyword, a redirect manager with 301, 302 and 307 redirects plus automatic redirects when a slug changes, and a JSON-LD schema graph with a per-post schema manager.
The main difference is how AI works. RankFlect SEO uses your own key with Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, OpenRouter or a local model, so there are no credits and you pay the provider directly (see AI providers). It also has a built-in MCP server, so AI agents such as Claude or ChatGPT can work on your SEO. By default, agent edits wait for your approval, and you can undo any change.
On performance, it adds no front-end JavaScript (apart from the optional Google Analytics tag), and modules you switch off don't run. It imports from Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress, The SEO Framework, Slim SEO and Squirrly SEO, with a backup first. It is newer than the others, so it has a smaller community and fewer third-party tutorials.
Feature comparison: what each free plugin gives you
Here is how each plugin handles the features that come up most often. "Free" means the plugin from WordPress.org with no paid add-on.
Focus keywords
- Yoast SEO: extra keyphrases (up to five per page) need Premium.
- Rank Math: multiple focus keywords in free.
- All in One SEO: TruSEO analysis, which AIOSEO says handles unlimited focus keywords.
- SEOPress: unlimited target keywords in free.
- The SEO Framework: through the optional Focus extension.
- RankFlect SEO: unlimited, with a warning when another post targets the same keyword.
Redirects
- Yoast SEO: Premium only.
- Rank Math: redirect manager and 404 monitor in free.
- All in One SEO: Pro.
- SEOPress: per-post redirects in free, full manager in PRO.
- The SEO Framework: no general redirect manager. Use a separate plugin.
- RankFlect SEO: exact-match 301, 302 and 307 redirects in free. Regex, 410 and the 404 monitor are in Pro.
AI features and how you pay for them
- Yoast SEO: included with Premium, no credits to buy.
- Rank Math: Content AI, based on usage credits.
- All in One SEO: AI credits included in each paid plan.
- SEOPress: PRO, with your own key or optional AI Credits.
- The SEO Framework: no AI writing features listed.
- RankFlect SEO: free, with your own key or a local model. No credits.
Migration and import
Every plugin here can read data from Yoast SEO, so moving away from Yoast is well supported. The real differences are in the details: which fields come across, whether redirects are included, and whether you can undo the import. Check the importer's documentation for the exact fields before you rely on it.
Which Yoast SEO alternative should you choose?
There is no single winner. Match the plugin to your site:
- Stay with Yoast SEO if it already does what you need, your team knows it, and you don't need free redirects. Switching has a cost, even when it is small.
- Rank Math suits people who want a large free feature set, including redirects and a 404 monitor, and don't mind AI on credits.
- All in One SEO suits site owners who plan to buy a paid plan anyway and want features like local SEO and rank tracking from one vendor.
- SEOPress suits agencies that value white labeling, a quiet admin and the choice of their own AI key.
- The SEO Framework suits developers and minimalists who want automatic, sensible defaults and few settings.
- RankFlect SEO suits people who want AI on their own key with no credits, or want AI agents to work on their SEO with approval and undo.
If you are still unsure, try your top choice on a staging copy of your site first. You can also see our side-by-side table on the compare page.
How to switch from Yoast SEO safely
The steps are the same whichever plugin you pick:
- Back up your site, including the database.
- Write down your Yoast settings: title templates, noindex rules, social defaults, verification codes and any redirects.
- Install the new plugin and run its importer while Yoast's data is still in the database. Don't delete Yoast first.
- Check a sample of key pages. View the source and confirm the title, meta description, robots tag and canonical.
- Deactivate Yoast. Two active SEO plugins print duplicate meta tags.
- Submit the new sitemap in Google Search Console if its URL changed, and watch your reports for a few weeks.
In RankFlect SEO, go to RankFlect SEO → Tools → Import. It takes a backup first, never changes Yoast's own data, and records the whole import as one batch that you can undo. The guide to importing from other SEO plugins lists exactly which fields come across from each plugin.
If you want to try it, RankFlect SEO is free to download for unlimited sites.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best free alternative to Yoast SEO?
It depends on what you need. Rank Math and RankFlect SEO include a redirect manager and multiple focus keywords for free. The SEO Framework is the most minimal option. SEOPress is a good fit if you want a quiet admin and white labeling.
Will I lose my rankings if I switch from Yoast SEO?
Not if the migration is done carefully. Rankings depend on your content and on the tags your pages output, not on the plugin's name. If titles, descriptions, canonicals, noindex rules and redirects come across unchanged, Google sees the same pages. Check a sample of URLs after the import to be sure.
Can I run Yoast SEO and another SEO plugin together?
Only briefly, while you import and compare. Two active SEO plugins usually print duplicate titles, meta descriptions and schema. Deactivate Yoast once you have checked the import.
Does Yoast SEO free include redirects?
No. Yoast lists its redirect manager as a Premium feature. On the free plugin, you can use a separate redirect plugin or move to an SEO plugin with a free redirect manager.
Do AI SEO features cost extra?
That depends on the plugin. Yoast includes AI in Premium. Rank Math and All in One SEO use credits. SEOPress PRO and RankFlect SEO can use your own key, which means you pay the AI provider directly.
